Coín Office – Introduction:
Welcome to the De Cotta Law Coín office, serving the vibrant inland area of Málaga province and beyond.

Coín is an ancient Andalucian town dating back to before Roman times. Nestled in the Rio Grande Valley, the town is a fast growing community of well over 20,000 people, of which foreign residents make up significant percentage. Its central location is part of its popularity, as it is less that half an hour from the main coastal towns, such as Marbella, Fuengirola & Benalmadena as well as being close to Málaga capital and of course the beautiful countryside of the interior.

As well as the charming churches and town houses of old town, Coín boasts one of the regions best new shopping & leisure centres (La Trocha) as well as being the home to the film studios where the BBC soap, Eldorado was filmed!

Meet Our Team:

Jon Sutton
English Solicitor & Partner

Jon started his career with Eagle Star Insurance Company as an accident investigator and personal injury claims negotiator. He then qualified as a solicitor in his home town, at the Manchester Metropolitan University. However, his passion of football and in particular his international travels following Manchester United, frequently brought him to Spain.

Jon developed a passion for Spain, its culture climate & architecture and he was motivated to make the move from the UK. He studied Spanish at the Instituto Cervantes, enabling him to make the professional transfer to De Cotta McKenna y Santafé where he is equity partner with responsibility for Wills, Inheritance & Probate. He specialises in Spanish Estates of UK Nationals and dealing with the conflicts of law of estates across the two jurisdictions of Spain and the UK. He also continues to use his experience in litigation and personal injury claims to assist private clients and UK law firms with claims for accidents which occur in Spain.

When not helping the English speaking community in Andalucia with their Wills and Inheritance planning, Jon still enjoys following football, films and home cinema and of course the southern Spanish lifestyle, including dining at the many restaurants that Andalucía has to offer and at the coast’s many beach Chiringuitos.

Javier Florido
Abogado

Javier graduated in Law from the University of Malaga in 1991, and has been a member of Malaga's Illustrious College of Lawyers since 1995.

With a broad range of legal experience, developed through his time at one of Malaga's best known law firms, Javier specialises in criminal, civil & commercial litigation.

When not working, Javier is very much a family man and enjoys time with his wife and children. He has a passion for classic movies, and is a keen coin & antique collector.

María Corder
Abogado

Maria is an English qualified Employment Solicitor, and part of De Cotta Law’s Employment department which includes Spanish Abogados and English solicitors. She also assists with Probate and Family matters.

Maria read law at the Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London and obtained her post graduate Diploma in Law at the College of Law in Guildford.

With in-depth experience of both contentious and non-contentious employment matters, ranging from drafting contracts & policies for employers, through to arbitration, mediation and representation at tribunals; Maria is well equipped to support businesses and employers in Spain.

In her spare time, Maria enjoys sports, including running, skiing and tennis.
